Thomas McCormick opened a small candy shop in London, Ontario in 1858. He achieved a great success and his son, Frank and George established his candy factory of 100 acres in 1913. The factory at its peak employed over 1,000 workers and produced more than 61,000 kg of candies and 45,000 kg of biscuits per day. In 2004, McCormick was sold to some investment company that had failed to find any buyers eventually, so the factory has been in the hands of the city hall since then.

トーマス・マコーミック氏は1858年にオンタリオ州のロンドンに小さなお菓子屋さんをオープンしました。菓子店は成功を収め、彼の息子、フランクとジョージは100エーカーの土地にお菓子工場を建設しました。最盛期の工場は、1000人以上の従業員を雇用し、毎日61000kg以上のキャンディーと45000kgのビスケットの生産を行っていました。しかし多大な責務を抱えてしまい工場は閉鎖されました。2004年にフロリダ州の投資会社に売却されましたが、購入者を見つけることができなったため、現在は廃墟でありながら市役所の管理下におかれています。

Our last day in Canada, we visited London, Ontario! Chris said that there was abandoned candy factory! Sure! We should go! Go go, McCormick Candy Plant!

廃墟最終日のドライブ中、お菓子工場の廃墟があるぜよ！と廃墟仲間のクリスが言った。お菓子工場…それはチャーリーとチョコレート工場みたいなのかしら。是非寄っていこう！となり潜入スタート。

We went through an empty lot choked with weeds. When we entered the building, we could explore smoothly despite the busy neighborhood. But Inside was dark….

オンタリオの小さな街に、カナダでは有名なお菓子メーカー、マコーミック社の製菓工場の廃墟はあります。コソコソと裏口から侵入し、真っ暗な内部に突入しました。

Unfortunately, Sweet fragrance did not remain in this candy factory. But just dusty smell! This building wasn’t architecturally appealing… All floor are now empty. but We found a melted mystery liquid!!?? It was flowing and dripping from the pipe… What is this? Looks like Caramel… I tried to lick it… but I was stopped because I do not want to die yet….

お菓子工場だったので、甘い匂いがあるのかな？と思っていたど、埃の臭いしかしなかった…。謎のキャラメル？のような液体が出ているパイプを発見した。舐めて確認しようと思いましたが、命が惜しかったのでやめた。きっと舐めてたら、この記事を書く前に死んでいたかもしれない….
