As we know, there are many countries in Europe; however, for Urban Explorers, Belgium is one of the most exciting countries because of huge possession of abandoned buildings. “Chocolate! Beer!” This image is for “Normal Persons”; for me, Belgium is the Kingdom of Abandoned Places!!! (Excuse me plz!!) I’ve started my overseas urbex from 2009, and the first place is here, Belgium. It’s one of my memorial places. I’ll show my articles here, but this one is just a small part of tons of great abandoned buildings!!!
ヨーロッパの多々ある国の中でも、有数の廃墟所有国であるベルギー。普通の旅行者にとってベルギーといえば、チョコレート！ビール！というイメージかもしれませんが、アタシにとってはベルギー＝廃墟です！（失礼すぎる）2009年に海外廃墟探索をスタートさせた場所もベルギーだったので、思い出深い国の一つです。ここで紹介する廃墟はほんの一部であり、ベルギーには廃墟がもりもりあります！

She, Powerplant IM, the Queen of cooling towers, is called “Most famous, and Coolest Cooling Tower in the Europe”. The tower is deserted at a factory district where is a little bit dangerous area in Charleroi. Compared to other cooling towers, its construction is very unique, therefore many people visit to have a look.
もっとも有名でヨーロッパで一番かっこいいクーリングタワーと呼ばれる、冷却塔廃墟の女王、パワープラントIM。それはベルギーのシャルルロワの工場地帯、ちょいと治安の悪いエリアに放棄されています。他のクーリングタワーに比べてユニークな構造で、それを見たさに今でも訪問者は後をたちません。

This cooling facility was used to be a part of Carsid Steel mill. Now, its cooling tower has already been abandoned, but it is still located in the running factory area.
冷却塔は、かつてこのエリアにあったCarsid鉄鋼工場という巨大な工場の施設の一部でした。冷却塔自体は放棄されていますが、今でも現役バリバリの工場の敷地内にあります。

A radio telescope site used for astronomy, and to monitor solar activity, was built in 1954. A radio telescope is a form of directional radio antenna used in radio astronomy.

ヴィラハイルと呼ばれる邸宅はベルギーの某所にある廃墟です。外観だけ見るとこじんまりとしたお家で、廃墟とは思えない風貌ですが、邸宅の内部には探索家にとってワクワクするものがたくさん残されています！
Abandoned Monastery Antoinette | アントワネット修道院

The Monastery Antoinette, an abandoned building, is located in a small town in Belgium. This was built in 20th century and it used to be for nuns. After finishing its role as a monastery, it was used as a care home, and then in 2008, the building got abandoned.
アントワネット修道院はベルギーの小さな町にある廃墟です。20世紀に建てられたこの修道院、もともとは修道女のための修道院でした。修道院としての役目を終えた建物は、1950年頃には高齢者のためのケアホーム、日本で言う老人ホームとして使用されました。現在廃墟となっています。

This castle was my first overseas urban exploration. We visited Miranda Castle, a well-known Urbex site in Europe. It looks like the Abandoned Cinderella Castle.

The Castle of Mesen is located in Lede, Belgium. It is very famous to foreigner explorers around the Europe. The coolest part of this site is the big church! This is a one of my favorite locations, but it was demolished in 2010! I felt really sad.
メーセン城はベルギーのレデ（Lede）という町の中心部にある大きな城の廃墟。敷地内にはとっても素敵な教会の廃墟もあり、ヨーロッパでは有名な廃墟の一つでした。ここは大好きな廃墟の一つでしたが、2010年に取り壊されてしまいました。残念！

I visited Belgium in November 2009 for the exclusive purpose of exploring the SNCB Train Graveyard. This depot is located next to the SNCB railway station. The existence of the graveyard is related to the history of SNCB. There were some diesel locomotives in this building and a lot of things have become rusty and decayed. Each locomotives or machines from SNCB end its life here.
ベルギーのシャルルロワ、かつて重工業地帯としても栄えたこの地域に、現役であるSNCBのメンテナンス施設の敷地内に、車両基地の廃墟があります！機関車の終着駅には今でも多くの車両が静かに眠っています。
Hasard Collieries Cheratte | アザール炭坑

Hasard Collieries located in Belgium near Liege in the village of Cheratte. The coal mine closed down in 1997 and became abandoned. The most impressive part of this site is the huge winding tower! It consists of a 480 meters deep shaft. It looks a bit like the “Winding Tower of the Shime Mine” (located in Fukuoka prefecture, Japan).
アザール炭坑は、リエージュの重工業における主要鉱山の一つでしたが、1860年に開鉱され、1977年に閉鎖されました。この炭鉱で一番の見どころは、480メートル深い炭坑の上に建っている巨大なワインディングタワー(竪坑櫓)です! この竪坑櫓、福岡にある”志免炭鉱竪坑櫓”に似ていることでも知られています。

Brussels cargo train station, not functional now, is called station Tour & Taxi. After its abandonment, it was converted for other purposes. It is used as a training ground for circus staffs and a warehouse.
ブリュッセル市内にある、ツアー＆タクシーと呼ばれるブリュッセル貨物駅の廃墟です。現在は駅としての機能はしてません。多目的な場所として再利用されているようです。私が行ったときは、サーカス団のトレーニンズ場や大道具置き場として使われているようでした。

I visited Belgium to explore “Fort de la Chartreuse” in 2009, and it was extremely easy to access; because this area is a walking course of neighbors with the dog. The fort is really huge with four floors, the basement and the attic. Inside the building, all floors were completely empty. Just like a boring old building, but I guess I found myself interested in its architectural style at that time. Now, it seems to be also popular as a survival game field.
ベルギーのシャルトリューズの砦と呼ばれる、要塞の廃墟に行ってきました。近所の人のお散歩コースにもなっている場所なので、アクセスは非常に簡単。赤煉瓦で作られた四階建て建物が3つ、中には地下砲台跡や武器庫がありました。軍に関係するのものは一切残っていません。最近では、サバイバルゲームのフィールドとしても人気なようです。アタシにとってここは、人生初の心霊写真を撮った場所でもあります…

A La Crypte Laeken is located next to “Notre-Dame de Laeken church”. My first visiting here was in 2009, and next time was in 2011. To get into the place, you should find the gate leading to the catacombs. It was a REALLY fun place to explore…….
ベルギーのラーケン地下墓地は、2009年と2011年に二回訪れほど雰囲気が良くて大好きな廃墟墓地です。地下墓地はブリュッセルの旧市街にある、ノートルダム・ラーケン教会が管理する墓地です。地上の墓地も見応えがあり、観光にもうってつけの場所ですが、廃墟好きにとっては地下墓地がメインです！

Inside of this huge building, the criminals are waiting for being judged. This is now under construction, so we climbed up the repair wall over to the building. I have to concentrate myself to be as inconspicuous as possible, focusing on where is next step… Like ninjas!

These huge white cooling towers were the gas thermal power stations produce electricity by using natural gas. The installations have been just closed at the beginning of 2014, so still cute and fresh abandoned sites these towers were.
この巨大な二つの白い冷却塔は、天然ガスを利用して電力を作るガス火力発電所でした。2014年のはじめに閉鎖されたばかりの出来たてほやほやの廃墟です。

The abandoned Boeing 707 is on a roof of a closed store which is located in southwestern place from Wetteren. I strongly felt a big gap between the quiet rural town and the big abandoned airplane on the store.
放棄されたボーイング707はウェッテレン(Wetteren)という街の西南にある廃墟になった店の上に乗っかっています。私はその閑静な田舎町と不自然に屋上に鎮座する航空機にすごいギャップを感じました。
