I went to explore an abandoned road called Akazawa yawatano renraku bashi located in the mountain of Izu, Shizuoka prefecture, with Chris, Alessandro, and Fujita. This abandoned road is called Unfinished Winding Road, and it is a very common place in the Japan’s haikyo. It was more interesting than I had thought.
It was built to bring the traffic up to a residential area in the mountains. The road was opened in 1976, but after a while, was being closed. It was still incomplete, but the development has been canceled due to the bankruptcy of the company in charge to finish the work.
We climb the mountain wall, and while pushing aside the weed that we find on the way, we arrived at the destination. I saw many pictures of this road on the web, but when I saw it live, I felt the force of this place. The road’s construction is quite rough… There is a big gap between the joints. That’s rough made!!!
I tried to stand up from the ending edge of the bridge and was a bit scary… because the large structure was collapsed. Actually, no one knows how the fallen section is collapsed, but in accord with some rumors, everything happens due to the Izu earthquake in 1974. Nobody knows the truth!
