Eastern State Penitentiary

The Eastern State Penitentiary is a former American prison in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. ESP was operational from 1829 until 1971. The penitentiary refined the revolutionary system of separate incarceration first pioneered at the Walnut Street Jail, which emphasized principles of reform rather than punishment. Notorious criminals such as bank robber Willie Sutton and Al Capone were held inside its innovative wagon wheel design. The prison is currently a U.S. National Historic Landmark! イースタン州立刑務所はペンシルバニア州フィラデルフィアにある刑務所です。1829年から1971年まで、罪人を多く投獄させるための独自のシステムを持つ刑務所として運営されていました。この刑務所に投獄された一番有名な犯罪者といえば、アメリカのギャング、アル・カポネ（Alphonse Gabriel Capone)！ 10ヶ月のみの投獄でしたが、アル・カポネの独房だけ金にモノを言わせ特別仕様になっています。現在、刑務所は米国国立歴史指定の観光地です。一部が自由に歩きながら見学が可能でアル・カポネの独房も見学できます。

公式ツアーも行われているイースタン州立刑務所の廃墟。年間を通して様々なイベントが行われます！

The United States has some abandoned prison. This is the only abandoned prison that you can visit on an official tour. It is a 15 minute walk from Philadelphia station. Strangely, the abandoned prison is in a Residential area. Looking at the structure from outside, look likes just a Castle! I feel It’s as if time was stopped there!

アメリカには刑務所の廃墟はいくつか存在します。その中でも公式で見学できるありがたい刑務所がここ! イースタン州立刑務所です！フィラデルフィア駅から歩いて15分、住宅街を超えると石造りの巨大な刑務所が現れます。ここだけ時代に取り残されたような外観です！

あの伝説のアルカポネも収容されていた刑務所。

アルカポネの部屋だけとってもゴージャス。刑務所長はじめスタッフをお金で買収して刑務所でも快適な生活を行っていたそうです。

The Prison had an independent cell for adopting for adopted prisoners , That were called the separate system. The most impressive thing was the radiating wings of prison blocks, connected to the central hall. There are only one central heating sources in each prisoners cells…There are rumors that prisoners froze to death in the past, So there is also a famous rumor of a Ghost that appears in the prison.

刑務所は囚人を独立させて投獄させる=Separate system、中央の棟から放射状にのびるコンクリートの長い廊下で構成されています。各独房にはセントラルヒーティングが一つあるのみ…。当時は寒さで死ぬ受刑者も多かったとか。そんな噂もあってか、この刑務所、幽霊が出ることでも有名です!

Each year from the end of September to October, Eastern State Penitentiary holds a Halloween night tour. It’s called Terror behind the walls! It sounds like fun!

この刑務所で毎年9月の終わりから10月まで開催される、ハロウィーン限定のナイトツアー超面白そうです！その名もTerror behind the walls (壁の裏側の恐怖！)! 楽しそうです!!
