Fort de la Chartreuse

I visited Belgium to explore “Fort de la Chartreuse” in 2009, and it was extremely easy to access; because this area is a walking course of neighbors with the dog. The fort is really huge with four floors, the basement and the attic. Inside the building, all floors were completely empty. Just like a boring old building, but I guess I found myself interested in its architectural style at that time. Now, it seems to be also popular as a survival game field.

ベルギーのシャルトリューズの砦と呼ばれる、要塞の廃墟に行ってきました。近所の人のお散歩コースにもなっている場所なので、アクセスは非常に簡単でした。赤煉瓦で作られた四階建て建物が3つ、中には地下砲台跡や武器庫がありました。軍に関係するのものは一切残っていません。最近では、サバイバルゲームのフィールドとしても人気なようです。

History:
It was built as a barrier to protect the city of Liege by the Dutch army in 1817. This fortress was used as a barracks under the control of Belgium at the time of the outbreak of the Belgian revolution in 1830. During World War II chartreuse was invaded by Germany and the fortress became a prison for Belgians. 49 Belgians were executed this place. It was abandoned in 1982.

この要塞は、1817年にオランダ陸軍によってリエージュの街を守る防壁として建設され、1830年ベルギー革命の勃発の際にベルギーの管理下に置かれ、兵舎として使用されました。第二次世界大戦ではシャルトリューズはドイツに侵攻され、要塞はドイツに抵抗しようとした多くのベルギー人収容刑務所となってしまいます。この時に収容されていれていた49人は処刑され、この要塞に葬られたという悲しい歴史があります。
