There are a lot of places in Taiwan that has traces of Japanese colonial era, and this particular police station with Japanese roof tiles is one of them. It was originally built as a police station, but that didn’t last long and were being used as a regular housing. They started a movement to restore the building for its historical value, but it nothing much has been done and seems like it might fall apart at any minute.
Reminds us of a good old house
Its structure reminds me of a traditional Japanese housing back in a day. Inside was built exactly in a way you would see in Showa period, and it was filled with vintage objects left behind. You almost forget you’re in Taiwan. Paper used in the traditional sliding door was old ledger used for some business. Everything was written in old Japanese. Calendar on the wall stopped around fall of 1993. Much of the columns are distorted and you definitely have to watch yourself while exploring this area, but time stands surprisingly still in here.
