Legend tells that the “Osarizawa mine” was found as a copper mine in the year 708. It reached its flourish in 1889. In the 1966 the mine became unprofitable, so an old underground mine closed in 1978 and the Osarizawa historic museum was created instead. This former mining may seem deserted at first sight, It is still not completely abandoned. Facilities built at the Mitubishi Partnership Company are still operating.
Interesting! I went there on Saturday 🙂 I will post about it very soon too. We didn’t go at the same place AT ALL. The place you went is full of workers now. I went a bit next to it (at the pools), then I went on the top of the mountains. It’s very cool because if we put our pictures together, we cover all the whole location.
I did not explore well the mining facility. I am looking forward to your report! 😉
