The Phoenix Trotting Park, a horse racing track, was originally built in 1964 in Goodyear, Arizona. It opened in 1965 and was run for about two and a half seasons. The large, futuristically designed structure gave an optimistic look for the 1960s. However, a variety of factors led to the inevitable closing of the track. The hot weather of the desert caused events to be uncomfortable to attendees. The location provided limited means to control rain, leading to floods that caused accessibility problems. The main building of the park was used in the 1998 Charlie/Martin Sheen movie No Code of Conduct. Part of the feature involved a large explosion occurring at the track. (via; wikipedia)
I knew this abandoned building from my friend Chris Luckhardt’s shooing photographs, They were very Impressed photos! Because Sci-Fi likes futuristic designs, building is rare, my heat was bumped so fast! I want to go there so bad, That’s why I went to Arizona!
Until some time ago, There was only one fence around, but now, there is one more! It is W FENCE! I was wondering a little uneasy because didn’t know if i could enter not. Arrived in front of the W fence, I reached inside immediately, It was a simple way than I though… I’m so petite…
A long period time for this place became an abandoned, that’s why there isn’t anything inside. Many structure remain intact but everything is vandalized and covered in bird shit. But the charm of this place is the building itself! It remains Calatrava architecture! Hula-La! I felt like I was an embarkation in big spaceship 🙂
Thanks to the huge size, The stand size can accommodate a large audience. Even now, the view is great 🙂 But, I think audience were down in the sunbaked heat and hot wind of Arizona at the time… The commentary building is located form the other side of the stand immediately in front of mine. I wasn’t able to perceive the race courses atmosphere. The back of the stand is totally dark and one needs a lantern to go inside and was completely gutted by the explosion.
The building has been blown up by cinematography in Charlie Sheen’s movie ‘No Code of Conduct’ (Japan unpublished). It was a massive explosion! Bomb! You can see it being blown up in the last min’s of this YouTube clip 🙂
No Code of Conduct
I’ve seen photos on the internet of what it looks like inside, it’s lovely, and fascinated the pictures of the broken elevator. Abandoned elevator is the best part in this place! The first floor’s elevator is undoubtedly the most interesting part of this place. It’s quite vandalized, but strangely beautiful sense given to me 🙂
The corridor between the stand and the entrance building is very unique triangle shape window frame! This space is certainly worth seeing! I peeked stand’s building through the beveled window, It looked like a mother space ship.
I also know that the site is patrolled by security. Police patrol the area and a state trooper lives on the grounds. I do not know the rumor is true , but whether I get out of the building, and then walking through the empty lot, I saw the security guard’s car had been reconnaissance around the building. We were just purely lucky.
Addition
