Salton Sea Beach in Salton Sea

The Salton Sea is a famous place because of its extremely high salt concentration. People used to live around the lake before, nowadays, these buildings are abandoned and slowly going to ruin.

ソルトン湖は、塩分濃度が高すぎる湖として有名な場所の一つです。以前はたくさんの人がリゾート地として住んでいましたが、現在ではそのエリアは放棄されて、徐々に崩壊への道をたどっています。

History The Salton Sea is a shallow, saline, endorheic rift lake located directly on the San Andreas Fault, predominantly in California’s Imperial and Coachella Valleys. The sea was created by a flood in 1905, in which water from the Colorado River flowed into the area. Variations in agricultural runoff cause fluctuations in water level (and flooding of surrounding communities in the 1950s and 1960s), and the relatively high salinity of the inflow feeding the sea has resulted in ever increasing salinity. By the 1960s, the salinity of the Salton Sea was rising, jeopardizing some of the species in it. It has a salinity exceeding 4.0% w/v (saltier than seawater), and many species of fish can no longer survive. (via; wikipedia.org)

ソルトン湖は、アメリカ合衆国カリフォルニア州のインペリアル・バレーにある湖です。1905年の洪水により砂漠に灌漑用水が流入したため、現在見るような大きな湖が誕生しました。農業用水の流出により、比較的高い塩分濃度の水が流れ込み、年々湖の塩分は増加している。現在の塩分濃度は4.0％を超えており、これは海水よりも多い数値であり、多くの魚類が生息できない状況です。

This was one of those places that I had wanted visited to for a few years ago. We drove in desolate landscape. We didn’t meet any car from the opposite direction. While lake comes into view beyond desert, The ‘Salton sea beach’ signboard was come close.

ソルトン湖は前々から訪れたい廃墟の一つでした。殺風景で何もない道路を運転しソルトン湖に向かいましたが、行きかう車もほとんどいない・・・そうこうしているうちに、ソルトンシービーチという町の看板が見えてきた。

Salton Sea Beach is located along the western shore of the Salton Sea. The population was 422 at the 2010 census, up from 392 at the 2000 census. There is the atmosphere of living people, But there isn’t any sign of life. Near the living house, I found many like an abandoned house for what reason, there live in a place such as this?

ソルトンビーチはソルトン湖の西岸に沿って位置している町で、人口は2000年の国勢調査で392人、2010年の調査では422人が住んでいるそうです。人が住んでいる雰囲気はあるけど、人の姿は一切見当たらないというなんだか不気味な感じ。住居の中には、廃墟化しているものも多りました。にしてもどのような理由で、この場所に住んでいるのんでしょうか？

Going close to lakeside town, abandoned building coming out like mushrooms. Under the clean beautiful sky, Over a sandy ground, There are still abandoned buildings and motorhomes house trailers. All of these were in a horrible condition due act of vandalism. The environment around me was very dry and lonely, only emptiness around me, seems like a fragile world. I felt like was in another planet.

町の端の湖の近くに行けば、行くほど廃墟が増えてくる。晴天下の下、乾いた土地に廃屋やキャンピングカーが捨てられていました。廃墟は、落書きやいたずら、破壊にによって無残な姿。乾いた空気が広がっていた、それは孤独で空虚感に満ち溢れた場所でした。まるべ、別の惑星に来たような気分。

I walked in direction on the lakeside, When i reach the beach, I found a chair heavily damaged by salt. It is very impressive picture for me.

湖畔に到着すると、塩分によってボロボロになった椅子がぽつんと残されていた。それはすごく印象的で、椅子が何かを物語るような感じがしました

When I arrived on the beach there was bad smell of fish like. The salinity was killing millions of fish and creating this grotesque beach sand made by fish bones!

ふいに、腐敗した匂いが鼻をついた！生臭いYO！その原因はこの浜全体にあります。この浜は砂ではなく、塩分濃度の上昇により、何百万匹と死んだ魚の骨が砕けたものだからです。塩の臭いと生臭い匂いは何とも言えない匂いでした…
