The Market Street Power Plant

The abandoned Market Street Power Plant is a defunct early 20th century power plant in New Orleans, Louisiana. The most impressive part of this power plant is the tall chimney! You can see it even from very far away! The plant was built in 1905 and shut down in 1973. Current plans are to redevelop the plant for public use. Residential development is planned for the surrounding area.

マーケットストリート発電所は、ルイジアナ州ニューオリンズにある20世紀初頭に建てられた発電所の廃墟です。この発電所の見どころは、高い二本の煙突！遠くからでもそのお姿を望むことができます。

On a lovely, sunny morning.
I wanted to check out the Abandoned Market Street Power Plant with Ward (my colleague). We were easily able to get close to the power plant. And gate was open! We entered triumphantly inside! But… There was a security guard to stop us about two steps in X(.

廃墟なのに何か様子がおかしい…

He was very friendly though, and said “We’re currently shooting a movie here. It is forbidden to enter in here.” …O.M.G! I asked get inside again, begging with tears in my eyes (just kidding). But my strategy failed, we were gently asked to step outside of the building. We decided to fight until the end without giving up. I tried into another door on the other side, but another security guard appeared! So we gave up X( . But they were friendly and understanding and it was funny that they were actually filming a big movie there!

唯一入れた内部。入ったあとすぐにガードマンが来たw

晴れた朝に、私はWard（私の同僚）と共に散歩がてらマーケットストリート発電所の侵入を試みた。発電所にサクサク近づくと驚愕の光景が！何と！ゲートが開いているではないか！！まさにウェルカム状態！有刺鉄線のフェンス越えなくても良いではないか！意気揚々と開いてるゲートから入り写真を撮ろうとしたら、ガードマンが現れた！
ガードマンが言うには、現在、発電所では映画の撮影中とのことだった。「せっかく日本から来たんだ！入らせてくれ！」と懇願してみたけど、ガードマンは私達を優しく発電所の外にエスコートした…。ガードマンは親切で優しい人だった。
とりあえず、発電所を一周することにした。で、案の定あきらめられないので、裏から入れば見つからないんじゃないかと何気ない感じでと行こうとしたら、裏でバッチリ別のガードマンに止められた..。

ああ、ゲートが全開なのに入れないこの世知辛さ！

かっこいい変電施設！

There was photographic equipment as well as many cars and trucks from Fox studios around the power plant. It looked like large sum of money was invested there. We asked what movie it was and they said it was “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” !

中に入る事は出来ませんでしたが、発電所周辺にはFOXスタジオの撮影車がたくさんありました。大作映画の撮影だろうなーと思い、ガードマンに何撮影してるのか聞いたら、「猿の惑星の最新作だよ！」と教えてくれた。
