Centralia is a ghost town in the borough of Pennsylvania, United States. At its height over 1.000 residents lived there. There , most residents worked at the Centralia Mine. A mine fire broke out in 1962. It still continues to burn underground. In 2002, the US Postal Service revoked Centralia’s ZIP code, 17927. In 2009, Governor Ed Rendell began the formal eviction of Centralia residents.

First of all, I could not go to the heart of the town because I wasn’t familiar with the location. I couldn’t find the famous destroyed road in the no-entry zone… I went all the way there for nothing! I was so stupid… Dammit…
まずはじめに、土地感が無い私は、セントラリアで一番肝心な場所に行くことを失念しました。そこは通行禁止の道路で、地面が割れている有名な場所だったんですが…大失態です。さて、気を取り直してレポートを続けます。
Silent Hillの教会と似ている教会があるということですが…全然似ていない…
Centralia is a small town that has been called the model for the horror game Silent Hill. I was interested because, I like the world of Silent Hill, and wanted to visit this ghost town. A coworker of mine, who always wears T-shirt (Even in winter! ) Philip was back in America at the same time, So we went there together.
セントラリアは、コナミ発売のホラーゲームサイレントヒルのモデルと言われている小さな街です。現在も坑内火災が燃え続けているこの土地は、サイレントヒルのコンセプトと非常に似ています。サイレントヒルを愛する自分としては、このゴーストタウンをいつか訪れたいと思っていました。仕事仲間のフィラデルフィア出身、フィリップ(冬でもＴシャツを着ているアメリカ人)が、一時アメリカに帰国するとのことで、ドライブがてらセントラリアへ行ってきました。
突然の雨！快晴だったのになあ・・・。でもこの雨のおかげで坑内火災を確認することができたのです！

Centralia is from the city of Philadelphia two hours by car on Route 61. A few residents still live in Centralia. When we arrived in Centralia, a squall came suddenly! Rain hits the pavement and the steam rose up. I touched the road and it felt warm! That’s because the fire was still burning underground. The sight was amazing! This is the curse of Silent Hill!!
フィラデルフィア市内から車で二時間。Route 61を走ればセントラリアです。セントラリアは今でも数人の住民が住んでいます。私達がセントラリアに到着すると、突然スコールが降ってきました。そして驚きの光景が！道路に雨が落ち蒸発してスチームが発生していました！私は道路に触れてみました。「あったかい！というかちょっと熱い！」今でも地下坑内が燃えてるんだと実感。
雨が蒸発してスチームが出てきている！しかも、触ると温かい！坑内火災を実感した。
立ち入り禁止の謎エリア。
A ghost town, but there were no homes left. All that remains is a lonely country road. I cannot recommend this for sightseeing.
ゴーストタウンと言われていますが、廃家のほとんどは取り壊され空き地が目立っていました。観光で行くには少しさびしい場所です。
このエリアはほとんど空き家だった。ゴーストタウンの噂は本当だった。

The Cemetery was not abandoned, but managed clean by nice people instead.
三つの共同墓地も放置されずにちゃんと綺麗に管理されていました。

Nice write up. I’d definitely like to make the trip out there but would be more interested in visiting any caves in and around the area.
That’s interesting! I found out about that caves for the first time. It’s interesting. I recommend that you visit to centralia 🙂
