There’s an old Japanese proverb where they talk about how you can enjoy twice as much with only a single grain. Ikeshima Island is just that for the Urbex lovers. More like five times as much with single grain. This island is only 4km in circumference, but carries various types of abandoned buildings like apartment complexes that housed coal miners and their families and factories. This place is known as the abandoned island, but there are about 200 people still living there. There are tours you can take to try out mining, and see how the locals are living in the area. You might want to be on the lookout and watch the weather.
池島はUrbex愛好家にとって一粒で五度くらいおいしい島です。周囲4kmほどの小さな島には、炭鉱夫とその家族のアパート群、選炭工場、坑櫓などのさまざま種類の廃墟が多数存在しています。池島は「廃墟の島」として紹介されることも多いですが、現在２００人ほどの島民の方々が住んでいます。今でもその生活の様子を伺うことができ、炭鉱の体験ツアーなどもあり貴重な体験ができる島です。低気圧で豪雨、雷、霧に見舞われた池島を探検してきました。
