Abandoned Island Koyoshima

This island is located about 1.5 km away from Yoshimashiohama port (与島塩浜港). The main industry of this island has been a stone mining that was started in the begining of 1912 and reached its prosperity in 1980. This island may seem deserted at first sight, but it is still alive for rather workers and becomes the favorite place for fishermen.
The island has a hotel, town for coal miners and big mine complex. The hotel called “Aqua Koyoshima” was built for tourists, but it got abandoned without opening for tourists who wouldn’t need to stay.

小与島は与島塩浜港から1.5キロの海上に位置しています。明治後半から石材の採掘が行われ、島には労働者が集まり採掘事業が栄えました。しかし近年、島の採掘は乏しくなってしまいました。一見、島は捨てられたかのように見えるかもしれませんが、採掘は続けられています。
小与島にはホテル、労働者のための小さな村、大きな鉱山が存在します。一つぶで3度おいしい感じ。” アクア小与島 “　と呼ばれるホテルは観光用に建設されましたがの一度もオープンすることなく、廃墟になったため内部はかなり綺麗なままです。採掘現場方面などには放棄された船やマシンがあって面白い場所でした。
