LEQUIO Resort Hotel opened its doors to the public during the mid-70’s hotel boom in Okinawa, right in time for Okinawan Ocean Expo ’75. Even though the hotel was nestled in a great location and offered some stunning view of the Ora Bay, it closed shortly after its grand opening. This place remains a popular spot for many urban explorers.

Ryukyuan’s Hotel
You’ll see this white L shaped building as you drive down the National Route 331. The gate with Do Not Enter sign’s heavily vandalized (you can literally go right in), but its LEQUIO Resort plaque is still in a good shape. (FYI: LEQUIO means Ryukyuan in Portuguese.)
Each individual room seemed to be setup the same way, overlooking the ever changing Ora Bay. The view must have been amazing at the time. Nowadays, the place is completely bare except for the impressive amount of graffitis. It kind of reminded me of the abandoned buildings you would expect to see outside of Japan. There was nothing special to its size, location, and atmosphere, but I liked the whole emptiness of it.

Rumor Spreading
It’s also known as the haunted hotel to many locals and rumors are still spreading. There’s no credibility to it all, but some say they saw the ghosts of “a couple who commited suicide,” or there’s a “room where the murder took place,” or talk about “the tragic drowning incident.”
I personally want to know more about the Wakage-no-itari Village located near the hotel. (“Wakage-no-itari” means “young people acting out thoughtlessly/blaming on youth.”) I wonder what goes on in there…
