This abandoned local factory is known as a “flea factory,” standing in Taichung. Darkened reinforced concrete is pretty impressive from the outside. Rooftop overrun by so many trees. Could it be the trendy green roof? I was caught off guard while I was standing next to one of the windows; a guy from neighboring house asked me how the inside looks and if I was enjoying it.

Abandoned building in a lively city
The most intriguing part about this building is that it’s abandoned and left behind inside a city full of life. You can take a look of an outside from the window and see the busy road filled with motorcyclists and cars. The abandoned building in a lively city; this contrast adds surrealistic feel to the already amazing edifice.

Piano in the factory?
Third floor was a living quarter for the family who were running the factory. The master bedroom, kids’ room, and the piano that were probably used by kids were all under thick piles of dust. Time stands still in here, and this contrast from the lively city just outside of this building is one of the best things about an abandoned building.

Why is it called a Flea Factory?
After exploring around, my Taiwanese friend started checking my legs. Her hands quickly grabbed something and showed me a tiny black flea. I suffered from severe itch and blisters for a whole week…
