This is my first Gunkanjima report. Gunkanjima was a wonderful experience!! From the moment I got involved in urban exploration, I wanted to explore Gunkanjima. I had a chance to go and explored it for the first time in 2007. Hooray!
History:
Hashima Island looks like a Battleship floating on the sea, hence its nickname “Gunkan-Jima= Battleship island. In 1810 it was mined for coal and the town was prosperous. But things did not last long… The need for oil replaced coal and by 1974 the mine was closed and the workers and their families were relocated away from the island. Battleship Island has now been made into a tourist spot, easily accessible by boat.(Source: wikipedia.org)
“It has been decades!
This Hashima Island has been left to waste.
Decaying… Decaying… This island will never come back to life.”
I went to Nagasaki! And I boarded the ship, and I aimed the island! When I first see Gunkanjima from the boat, I was extremely excited, and I felt my heart coming out of my mouth! Little by little, we approach the island. View from the ship was like a Battleship.
The first thing who jumped in our eyes was the abandoned Hashima school! Was like a dream! Awesome! And, First, I went to Hashima Shrine, and I prayed for my safety exploration to Gunkanjima god 🙂
After that, I continue taking pictures like crazy! The block65, the hospital, the “stairway to the hell”, the mining area… all these buildings are simply wonderful! The lonely atmosphere of the island, match perfectly with the concrete buildings, and I was impressed enough to be left speechless in front of all of this. No matter what, I CAN NOT describe my wonderful impression using words! Enjoy the photos!
omg , were we live ?
