Buck Hill Inn (The Inn at Buck Hill Falls) is located Pocono Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Originally opened in 1901 as an 18 room inn and was expanded over the years to become 400 rooms resort and conference center. Unfortunately, the Buck Hill Inn did not last and financial difficulties and other reasons brought the closure of the inn in 1991.

The Eastern State Penitentiary is a former American prison, has a special system to imprison many criminals, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. ESP was operational from 1829 until 1971. This prison is also really famous because of an imprisonment of Alphonse Gabriel Capone.

The Forest Heaven Asylum, close to D.C., is an abandoned asylum. Because of its huge scale, many hospital facilities are left. Unfortunately, many of them has been taken apart, but still we can meet great artifacts remind us the asylum. Nowadays, this building is strictly guarded, because it is inside the military site.

In Staten Island, not far away from NY, there is the Arthur Kill Ship Graveyard. You could feel the end of the world once you see many kinds of rusty ships, such as fishing boats, steamships, warships, ferryboats, are abandoned one upon another. Please be careful when you visit this area, because its ground is really soft so you will go down when you rush into here.
NYからそんなに離れていないステインアイランドという場所に、船の墓地’ Arthur Kill Ship Graveyard’。 ここには漁船、蒸気船、軍艦、フェリーなどたくさんの種類の船が錆だらけで折り重なり合い放棄されているさまは、世界終末を思わせる光景です。場所の地盤は悪く、わーい！とテンション高めで突入すると、足がズブズブと沈んでいく危険地帯にありますので探索の際には注意が必要です。

Bennett school for Girls (a.k.a Bennett College) was a women’s college founded in 1890 and located in the town of Millbrook in New York. They attempted to upgrade facilities and convert to a coed college in the mid-1970s; however this school was closed in 1978 because of economic difficulties. Now, the building is facing a crisis of collapse, so it’s off limit!! OH NO!!!!

This asylum, the Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital, used to accept thousands of mental patients; however, it was closed in 2008, and the building, historical Second Empire Victorian Style, is being planned to be preserved. Still it’s possible to take a look around of this area by using Google Map Street View, but now this hospital is protected by fences, monitoring cameras, and also police officers.
かつて千人規模の精神病に悩む患者を受け入れていたグレイストーン・パーク精神病院。2008年に閉鎖されて、歴史的な第二帝政ビクトリア朝様式(Second Empire Victorian style)の建物は、現在保存される方向で計画されているようです。グーグルストリートビューだと病院のまわりを周回できるようになっていますが、現在はフェンスと監視カメラ、おまに警察までが警備している状態。

The Phoenix Trotting Park, a horse racing track, was originally built in 1964 in Goodyear, Arizona. It opened in 1965 and was run for about two and a half seasons. The large, futuristically designed structure gave an optimistic look for the 1960s. However, a variety of factors led to the inevitable closing of the track. TOO HOT!!!

The abandoned dog track is located in Black Canyon City, Arizona. This was opened in 1967; it was a race track for greyhounds (dog) by the Funk family. The family continued to run this track with dogs until it was closed in 1982, and eventually became abandoned in the late 1980s. By the way, Funk Family, their name is really unique, don’t you think so?

We drove from Phoenix one and a half hours, arriving at ‘Davis-Monthan Air Force Base!’ This base is called ‘Aircraft Bone Yard’, and there are lots of retired Aircraft left in the ground. This scenery is simply overwhelming!! Although I will be excited to look some used fighters, but it is even better and exciting to look this retired fighter. I’m so happy, happy enough to hug a cactus!!!

The historical building known as the Hotel Monroe is in Phoenix, Arizona. It was built in 1931. The Professional Building is designed in the Art Deco style 12-story tower. The hotel has been mired in bankruptcy and foreclosure proceedings. The First Baptist Church and Hotel Monroe, I stayed, were very close 🙂 It takes only 2 minutes by walking! This Italian Gothic church is nicely matched to the atmosphere of Arizona! Looking at the structure from outside of sidewalks, it is difficult to see its internal damage.

Bombay Beach city was built on the eastern shore in the 1950s. It is located on the Salton Sea 4 miles west-southwest from Frink and is the lowest community in America. The population was 295 at the 2010 census, decreased from 366 in 2000. The evidence of geothermal activity is also visible here.

At the Mojave Desert, near the Edwards Air Force Base, some abandoned aircrafts are left. These old Cold War relics still stand on remote deserted region. Out of these, the most powerful abandoned fighter planes are B-52 and B-58! I visited the site to capture these war relics.

Lake Dolores Water Park is an abandoned water park in Newberry Springs in the Mojave Desert of Southern California. This place gave some funs to people traveling on the interstate 15 between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Unfortunately, now the watermark is even not in a bad condition, it is properly dead. Its water slides and attractions are now gone, and repeatedly vandalized; much of the park is now in ruins.

In Año Nuevo State Reserve, obsolete lighthouse facilities are still standing even they had ended their roles. That place is only for marine life so I can’t go on, but it’s possible to watch the lighthouses from the opposite shore.

Lafayette Cemetery No. 2 is located on Washington Avenue, New Orleans. Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 was reaching burial capacity in 1847, and Lafayette No. 2 was built for new burials in 1850. The area now has a reputation for being unsafe. This cemetery is nearly abandoned. Unfortunately, the whole cemetery is overgrown with weeds and bushes despite of many noteworthy works of architecture.
ニューオリンズには墓地が多く存在し、中でもラファイエット墓地は有名です。No,1とNo,2がありますがどちらも一般見学が可能です。ラファイエット墓地の歴史は古くNo,1は1847年に埋葬率を達したためNo.2が建てられました。歴史的に注目できる墓石も多く存在しますが、No,2墓地は雑草が生えっぱなしの無管理状態です。またNo.2があるエリアは治安が少し良くない場所があるので観光の際には注意が必要です。
St. Claude Avenue Bascule Bridge | ニューオリンズの跳開橋

This bridge is not so big, but its Steampunk style design, and some rusted parts make this architecture particularly interesting and cool for me! Its powerful steel frames, make it looked like as a “tiny giant”. When Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, even when the bridge was swallowed up by a muddy stream, many people took refuge from the flooding atop of the bridge.
セント・クロード・アベニュー橋の写真をネット上で発見して、これは見に行かないと！というわけで行ってきました。橋は大きくないんだけど、ところどころ錆びてる感じがかっこいい！なんというか力強い鉄骨で作られた姿は”小さな巨人”という感じ。
